Membership Benefits

The Museum of Indian Culture, a member-supported

nonprofit organization, needs your membership support

to fulfill its mission.  By joining the Museum, you are helping

to preserve our history and support education about our

continued survival in the twenty-first century .

Consider all the pages in history books, all the reels of film, and all the hours of television specials devoted to Native American heritage.

Now consider the misconceptions and stereotypes that still persist about modern Native Americans as they transform through a new century.

Native Americans are not gone. Their history is still being recorded, an unbroken line extending from the first occupation of the Americas thousands of years ago.  It continues today in their traditions passed from parent to child, in the semi-sovereign courts and councils of modern federally-recognized Native American tribes, in festivals and powwows where traditional dances and regalia meet new innovations, and in their contributions to modern literature, art, and science.

The Museum of Indian Culture seeks to dismantle stereotypes about Native Americans by educating the public about the diversity and complexity of these modern and resilient peoples.

This is where you can help.

Because by supporting the Museum, you are not simply                             supporting the oldest Native American-oriented museum in Pennsylvania.

You are supporting….

¨ Native American artists who are able to sell their handmade crafts in the Museum’s gift shop, and tribal performers, demonstrators, and storytellers,

who are able to continue their peoples’ traditions because the Museum

sponsors them for its annual festivals and events.

¨ The Museum’s food bank that provides much needed food to low-income federally recognized American Indian families living within the tri-state area.

¨ Native American educational programs that the Museum and American Indian educators provides for school students and other groups every year, in which participants learn about the life-ways and cultures of Native Americans through stimulating artifact displays , lectures, and dance performances.

¨ The Museum’s efforts to maintain its exhibits and artifact collections, educate visitors about Native American cultures, both past and present, through its comprehensive research library and its interactive guided tours.

The Museum of Indian Culture is a completely member-supported organization.

Please choose to assist the Museum in its efforts to paint a more accurate picture of Native Americans, their history, and their future by becoming a member today.

Your contribution does make a difference in the Museum’s efforts to eradicate stereotypes and promote a more honest picture of the first peoples of America.
